Albright College Senior Sarah Crake Wins National Theatre Scholarship

2015 Nov 9

Albright College senior Sarah Crake, a theatre major from West Pittston, Pa., has won a 2015 Hoenig Theatre Artists' Scholarship.

Crake is one four students nationwide this year to receive the $3,000 stipend, which is designed to "assist promising young artists in establishing a career in the theatre and theatre arts."

The award can be used for auditions, interviews, headshots, scripts, professional classes and related expenses.

Crake intends to use her award toward study and workshops with the SITI Company's six-week summer intensive program. The New York-based ensemble company focuses on the creation of new work, training of young theater artists, and a commitment to international collaboration.

"I am humbled and affirmed by this award," said Crake, a Wyoming Area High School graduate. "Because of this, study with my dream company is possible."

At Albright, Crake has amassed impressive theatrical credentials. She has been part of numerous performances with the College's theatre group, the Domino Players. Crake spent a semester studying at the National Theater Institute in Connecticut and London.

And in February, Crake will direct the Domino Players' production of playwright Sarah Kane's play 4:48 Psychosis.

The Hoenig Theatre Artist's Scholarship was established in 1992 in memory of Stephen Hoenig, who was a theater student in New York when a tragic accident caused his untimely death at age 19. Hoenig was keenly aware that even the most talented young actors might never get the recognition they deserve because of lack of financial resources. In establishing this fund, the Hoenig family hopes to pass on Stephen's strong spirit and dedication to his craft as well as help another student in the pursuit of his or her dream.
