Justin Hoffman Ventures Far From Campus for Winter Break Study

2017 Jan 4

Justin Hoffman, a junior biochemistry major from Hatboro, Pa., is spending several weeks in Costa Rica on a faculty-led biological field study of a 5-acre property that was donated to Albright by an alumnus. Hoffman will help map the biological community of the property and survey for mammals, and will also visit several national parks to learn more about the wildlife and plant diversity of Costa Rica. Hoffman received a $500 Santander scholarship for the trip. Given to high-achieving students with financial need, these scholarships are made possible through an agreement between Albright and Santander Bank, N.A. for its Santander Universities division to provide funding to support scholarships for Albright students studying abroad.

Albright College has a three-week Winter Interim between the fall and spring semesters, affording students the opportunity to take classes or engage in research on campus, or travel far from Reading for both independent and faculty-led study opportunities. In recent years, students have traveled to Hawaii, Ecuador and Costa Rica for field studies.
