Albright College Adds Creative Writing and Sustainable Business Programs

by Carey Manzolillo

Reading, PA (02/24/2023) — Albright College has launched new minors in creative writing and sustainable business. Minor areas of study consist of five or six courses designed to complement the student's major field of study.

Complementing the college's longstanding English major and communications major in journalism or public relations and advertising, a new minor in creative writing is designed to help students develop their skills of creative expression in fiction, poetry, screenwriting and other genres. Students will work closely with published authors and will be encouraged to work with the college's literary magazine, student newspaper and student-run arts magazine - culminating in a polished portfolio of writing that they can use for MFA applications or immediately share with employers.

Albright's sustainable business minor introduces students to sustainable environmental, social and governance business practices. Environmental business involves issues such as energy efficiencies, climate change and pollution, whereas sustainable social business practices involve labor and pay standards, workplace diversity, health and safety, etc. Sustainable governance explores how organizations are led, from board composition to compliance and ethics and the integration of sustainability with strategy. Albright's robust business tracks include economics, entertainment industry, finance, international business, management, marketing and sport management. The college also offers a cross major in accounting, economics and finance with tracks that focus on accounting or financial analysis.

Named a top national college by Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education, Albright College (founded 1856) is home to a diverse community of learners who cultivate integrity, curiosity, connection and resilience. Through learning experiences that engage a student's creative and innovative capacities across all disciplines, both inside and outside of the classroom, an Albright College education guarantees that each student learns how to engage the world, understand the world, and is prepared to make an impact on a rapidly changing world. Located in Reading, Pa., Albright is home to undergraduate students, adult learners and graduate students.
