Reading, PA (02/17/2022) — Opening with a keynote by accessibility advocate and author, Alice Wong, on March 3, Albright College will host its third Empowering Albright Voices (EAV) day on March 4. All virtual panels are free and open to the public. Classes will not be held in order for the campus community to take part in the day's many in-person and virtual offerings.

By listening to panelists and taking part in activities that bring awareness to relevant social topics, Empowering Albright Voices day participants are able to voice challenges of discrimination on the basis of race and ethnicity, gender and sexual identity, accessibility, religious practices, and more. Participants openly discuss difficult topics and learn about people who are different from themselves, in an effort to cultivate an inclusive, thriving community.

March 4 Empowering Albright Voices day events include:

Amazing Race, 2 p.m., LifeSports Center

In this obstacle course, students will experience what it is like to live with accessibility limitations. The race presents participants with a variety of obstacles intended to simulate challenges such as limited mobility, dietary restrictions and sensory issues.

Struggling for accessibility, 12 p.m., Virtual

Four Albright faculty members from diverse disciplines will share personal and professional struggles and triumphs with learning disabilities, disability advocacy, and accessibility within academics.

Head coverings and modesty in a secular world, 3 p.m., Virtual

Head covering has a long tradition in religion and is practiced in different forms by Muslims, Jews, Christians and Sikhs. Highlighting the religious diversity of our campus and surrounding community, three women of different faiths will discuss the religious reasons why they choose to cover their hair.

The music technology industry after #MeToo, 4 p.m., Virtual

A pair of music technology industry professionals will discuss what has changed since the #MeToo movement gained international attention in 2017. Designed with Women's History Month in mind, the panel will cover the broader implications of gender in the music and entertainment industry and the experiences of women in the world of music today.

Diversity in science and science education, 7 p.m., Virtual

Historically, scientific fields have lacked inclusion of marginalized people. For EAV day, panelists will explore diversity in the sciences, shedding light on the perspectives of under-represented people in these fields.
