Author Tony Jack will lead Albright College discussion on 'The Privileged Poor'

Reading, PA (01/25/2022) — Making his second visit to Albright College, Anthony "Tony" Jack, Ph.D., Harvard faculty member and author of "The Privileged Poor: How elite colleges are failing disadvantaged students" will lead discussions about how access does not equal to acceptance for diverse and disadvantaged students who are accepted into elite colleges. An open session in Merner-Pfeiffer-Klein Memorial Chapel will take place Thursday, Feb. 10 at 4 p.m.

For his book, "The Privileged Poor" Jack draws on his scholarly research as well as his own experience as a low-income, first-generation college student to demonstrate barriers to academic success. He outlines both how, and why, disadvantaged students struggle at elite colleges and explains what schools can do differently for these students to thrive.

Academically-rigorous, Albright College values its equitable and inclusive community, comprised of a remarkable diversity of people, backgrounds and thoughts.
