PLCB Grant Bolsters Alcohol Awareness Education at Albright College

by Carey Manzolillo

Reading, PA (08/01/2022) — Albright College has been selected as a recipient of a 2022-2024 Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board Reducing Underage Drinking and Dangerous Drinking Grant in the amount of $36,950.

Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board's Bureau of Alcohol Education works to reduce and prevent dangerous and underage drinking through partnerships with schools, community groups and licensees.

Albright's grant will be used to support the college's ongoing efforts to combat underage drinking and promote responsible alcohol consumption by those of legal drinking age.

In addition to educational campaigns about short and long-term risks of excessive alcohol use, the project will build on successful interactive activities and training programs focused on the reduction of underage drinking. Alcohol awareness training for campus influencers will be provided for resident assistants and student leaders across campus representing Greek life, student organizations and athletics.

Interactive on-campus activities that help students learn about the physical impact of drinking on coordination and safety include Drunk Buster pedal cars and Fatal Vision Drunk Goggles. Alcohol-free social and recreational events coordinated by grant-funded resource officers also include alcohol awareness trivia games and stress-reducing therapy dogs.

Named a top national college by Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education, Albright College (founded 1856) is home to a diverse community of learners who cultivate integrity, curiosity, connection and resilience. Through learning experiences that engage a student's creative and innovative capacities across all disciplines, both inside and outside of the classroom, an Albright College education guarantees that each student learns how to engage the world, understand the world, and is prepared to make an impact on a rapidly changing world. Located in Reading, Pa., Albright is home to undergraduate students, adult learners and graduate students.
