Stabler Foundation Increases Grant Funding for Albright College Students

by Carey Manzolillo

Reading, PA (01/11/2022) — The Donald B. and Dorothy L. Stabler Foundation has added $340,000 to augment its existing endowed scholarship funds at Albright College, in support of sophomore, junior and senior students with financial need, who have demonstrated a commitment to leadership and service.

Originally endowed by a $1 million grant in 2010, the Donald B. and Dorothy L. Stabler fund was augmented two years later with an additional $400,000. Another $200,000 was added in both 2020 and 2021. To date, 214 Stabler awards have been granted to Albright students.

"We celebrate another step forward in our strategic vision, working together to build a sustainable financial model that focuses on students and their needs, the thriving well-being of our entire community, and making the life-changing benefits of an Albright education equally available to talented, determined students across the broadest range of socioeconomic backgrounds," said Albright President Jacquelyn S. Fetrow, Ph.D. '82.

As the oldest institution of higher learning in Reading, Pa., Albright College is invested in making its rigorous education available to creative innovators across all demographics - who are driven to make an impact on a rapidly changing world.

While Albright has worked to build a foundation for student success through tailored academic and community-building experiences, expanded career exploration, increased services and supports for first-year students, financial barriers remain an obstacle for many students.

As tuition rises, need-based federal grant aid usually does not change for sophomore, junior and senior students, often creating unanticipated bills that make it difficult for these students to complete their college education. Therefore, Albright is expanding its efforts to garner philanthropic support and to build an endowment dedicated to need-based scholarships and aid for rising sophomores, juniors and seniors.

The Donald B. and Dorothy L. Stabler Scholarship Fund at Albright provides multi-year scholarships to students, as they rise through their academic careers. Albright students can learn about applying for Stabler Scholarship and other funds here.
